Lyfe Kitchen is a rapidly growing restaurant chain specializing in healthy, organically grown food. The co-founder and chief executive officer of Lyfe Kitchen is Mike Roberts, former president and chief operating officer of McDonalds.
Evanston, Illinois is home to one of the most recent Lyfe Kitchen locations. The facility looks great, the food taste great, but the reverberant noise made it impossible for customers to enjoy the healthy cuisine while visiting with friends. The local owners came to Shiner&Associates, Inc., acoustical engineers for recommendations. Shiner recommended a spray-on acoustical treatment called K13 fc sona-spray.
Rick Ariagno, president of HEC Technologies, was hired to do the work. This circular shaped, architectural design with all glass walls, tile floors and uniquely sculptured concrete ceiling presented a number of challenges. The challenge was to improve the acoustics and the esthetics of this complicated ceiling, without shutting down the operation of this busy restaurant. The configuration of this ceiling would have made the job a challenge if it were done during initial construction. Keeping the restaurant operational while doing the work at night made the project a daunting task --- CAN YOU SAY, LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARE?
The job took coordination and cooperation between the owners, the management staff, Crane Construction who did the original build out and the employees of HEC Technologies. A daily work schedule was provided in advance showing areas to be cleared and work to be completed each night. Crews arrived at 9:30 pm, tented off the intended work area, sprayed and cleaned up the entire space by 6:00 am. The spray crew led by long time employee, Eric Kelly completed the job in five consecutive nights. The schedule was compressed by mixing all adhesives in our shop before leaving for the job site. This made it possible to hit the ground running without shortening the restaurants hours of operation.
HEC Technologies and its parent company, Home Energy Control, Inc., have been solving complicated thermal and acoustical problems for 33years. No job is too challenging and all of our employees take pride in the completed project.
